A steel beam bears directly on a steel cap plate atop a steel column, with sizing specified per plan and column schedule. A beam web stiffener or beam web connection plate is welded to each side of the beam web using quarter-inch fillet welds. The steel cap plate is secured to the column with welds sized at a quarter inch on three sides.
