A structural detail of a buckling-restrained braced frame column base connection features an W8 column anchored by a 1-1/4 inch thick embed plate with standard anchor bolt holes and two 1-1/2 inch grout holes. A 2 inch layer of non-shrink grout sits beneath the base plate above the finished floor level. An HSS6x4 diagonal brace connects via a 1x7 inch knife plate slotted through the centerline of the HSS, with 1/2x1x8 inch plates centered on the end of the knife plate on each side of the HSS. The brace assembly uses 3/4 inch diameter by 4 inch headed studs on each side of the HSS spaced at 18 inches on center, and connects to the gusset with plates measuring 1/2x7 inches on each side secured with four 7/8 inch diameter high-strength bolts. Fillet welds of 5/16 inch and 1/4 inch sizes tie the connection elements together per the indicated dimensions.
