A 4x12 number one Douglas Fir continuous ledger attaches to the wall using four 3/4-inch diameter anchor bolts at each purlin and spaced at 24 inches on center, starting bolts 8 inches from the end. A Simpson HPA28 wall anchor fastens to each purlin with twenty 10d common nails and extends into the wall with continuous #5 reinforcing bars. The purlin rests in a Simpson "W" hanger supported by the ledger. An extra layer of 90-pound felt covers the exposed steel strap or equivalent per roofer's recommendation.
