A slab on grade thickening profile accommodates embedded mechanical services with a maximum opening size of 200 millimetres or eight inches in diameter. The assembly requires an extra layer of slab reinforcing extending a minimum of 300 millimetres or twelve inches on each side of the openings. A minimum 75 millimetre or three-inch clearance is maintained above and below the pipes, with 25 millimetres or one inch between them. The subgrade must be prepared per specification and hand excavated after compaction as typical, with a 2 to 1 slope on the thickened edge.
