Two L3x3x3/16 angles, each cut to the opening width plus three feet, frame openings in metal deck. Angles attach to the metal deck with 1/8-inch fillet welds at one inch length, spot welded at each flute. A metal deck manufacturer-provided closure installs at the opening perimeter. A 3/16-inch fillet weld is typical for structural connections. Openings smaller than 6 inches by 6 inches require no additional framing; openings larger than 16 inches or exceeding 75 pounds of load require reference to detail 3 on sheet S500. A minimum clearance of 20 inches is required between adjacent openings.
