A steel column connects to a concrete foundation through a base plate secured by six one-inch diameter anchor rods with a two-foot minimum embedment. The base plate and column size are per the structural column schedule, featuring five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds connecting the column to the base plate. A one-and-a-half-inch layer of non-shrink grout fills the space beneath the base plate, which includes a two-inch diameter maximum optional grout hole centered in the plate. Anchor rods must be tightened snug tight with threaded ends scored to prevent loosening, and base plate hole diameters and plate washers are sized per the AISC manual.
