Sawcut opening in existing concrete with core-drilled corner relief holes to prevent over-cutting. A four-inch diameter hole is drilled tangent to the lines of the finished opening at each corner before sawcutting along the required lines without over-running. Remaining concrete at corners is chipped out carefully with small tools. For openings not exposed to public view, the ends of all existing cut reinforcing are coated with a heavy coat of asphaltic paint. For openings exposed to public view, the ends of all existing cut reinforcing are burned off one inch back from the face of the concrete and the holes are patched as for form ties.
