This assembly connects a hollow structural section member to a column using a vertical plate measuring 1/2 inch by 15 inches by 4 feet 1 1/2 inches. The vertical plate is welded to the column with 1/4 inch fillet welds. A horizontal flat plate measuring 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inches by 10 1/2 inches is welded to the column and the vertical plate with 1/4 inch fillet welds. The hollow structural section member, sized per plan and featuring a top nailer, is positioned against the vertical plate and secured. A stud wall is anchored above the hollow structural section member per plan.
