An angle kicker brace formed from an L3x3x1/4 structural angle connects a steel beam to an existing concrete slab or metal deck. The kicker is bolted to a 3/8-inch thick gusset plate welded to the beam web with a quarter-inch fillet weld, using three-quarter-inch diameter slip-critical bolts. At the top, the kicker framing angle fastens to an L4x4x1/4 connection angle anchored into the existing concrete slab using either two five-eighth-inch diameter drilled expansion anchors spaced at one foot on center or a single five-eighth-inch diameter expansion anchor. The connection angle spans 1 foot 6 inches and is spaced at 5 feet on center maximum or as shown on plan. A welded connection is permitted at the contractor's option.
