An HSS beam connects to an existing W21X49 wide flange beam using a quarter-inch plate on each side of the HSS secured with three-sixteenths fillet welds. An existing three-inch metal deck bears across the assembly and attaches to the HSS with three-quarter-inch diameter puddle welds at all down flutes. Dimensioning indicates specific clearance limits and edge distances for the framing alignment.
