A structural steel column rests on a base plate supported by a concrete foundation with one and a half inches of non-shrink grout beneath. Heavy hex head anchor bolts conforming to ASTM F1554 Grade 55 with supplementary requirement S1 extend up through oversized holes in the base plate. A three-eighths-inch thick plate washer is placed over the oversized holes beneath a heavy hex nut with threads fully engaged. Leveling nuts are provided typically beneath the base plate, with a contractor option to submit an alternate base plate leveling method to the structural engineer of record for approval. A quarter-inch fillet weld secures the column to the base plate.
