Two structural steel hanger connections illustrate hollow structural section members suspended from supporting beams with welded plate stiffeners. The first detail incorporates an HSS 4x4 hanger with a 1/2-inch by 7-inch plate matching the beam flange width, connected using 1/4-inch fillet welds and a three-eighths-inch plate on each side. The second detail shows an HSS 6x6 hanger utilizing a three-fourths-inch by 9-inch plate sized to the beam flange width, fastened with three-eighths-inch fillet welds and a three-eighths-inch full-height plate on each side. When a perpendicular beam occurs above the hanger connection, full-height stiffeners are provided on each side using plates and welds per the typical beam connection schedule.
