A structural steel column and brace assembly bears on a base plate secured with anchor bolts embedded into a continuous concrete pedestal and footing. Gusset plates connect diagonal braces to the column and base plate, while a shear lug transfers lateral loads directly into the concrete pedestal. The concrete footing and pedestal are reinforced with number six dowels spaced at eight inches on center, with the contact surface roughened to an amplitude of one-quarter inch.
