Two steel channels are joined via a three-eighths-inch thick shear plate welded to the web of the supporting channel with quarter-inch fillet welds. The supported steel channel connects to the shear plate using three three-quarter-inch diameter bolts, maintaining a half-inch clearance gap between the channel ends. The member sizes are sized per the structural framing plan.
