A twenty-four by twenty-four by one-half inch thick steel plate is embedded within engineered fill or metallurgical coke backfill material below finished grade. A number four-zero stranded bare copper wire connects to the electrical grounding system and attaches via an exothermic weld in the center of the plate, with the wire touching the plate only at the center connection point. The assembly is surrounded by select compacted native backfill extending one foot below the finished grade.
