The upper wide-flange column connects to the lower wide-flange column using partial-joint-penetration groove welds sized at half the web thickness for the web and flange thickness minus one-sixteenth of an inch for the flange. A bolted erection aid with an optional lifting hole is provided at the contractor's option and must be removed after erection.
