A structural steel beam connects to a column member using welded shear tabs and bolted connections centered on the beam layout lines. Welds are specified with seven-sixteenth inch and five-eighth inch fillet welds, using low hydrogen electrodes typically throughout. A four-by-four W2.1 by W2.1 welded wire fabric reinforces the concrete or masonry assembly, which is grouted after welding is complete. Three-inch and five-inch dimensional clearances are maintained at the junction with typical three-eighth inch fillet welds.
