A lateral brace connects to the underside of a steel beam using a five-by-five-inch plate of five-sixteenth-inch thickness and one three-eighths-inch diameter machine bolt. The brace must be located less than forty-five degrees in plan from the centerline of the steel beam. If the bracing plan angle exceeds forty-five degrees, reference is made to detail 2A.
