A buckling-restrained brace casing extends into a concrete slab with required blockout conditions. One-inch thick low-density expanded polystyrene bead board is provided on all sides of the casing for the portion embedded in concrete, with an end clearance equal to the maximum of stroke "c" and three inches. The indicated clearances represent the required final installed state of the buckling-restrained brace, though larger blockouts may be necessary for installation. The expanded polystyrene material is provided by others.
