A glulam column splice and connection passes through a cross-laminated timber deck. The connection features a Simpson MCT1.9x15 column splice connector with equal embedment into each column, alongside a steel plate with a center hole matching the pipe outer diameter plus one-eighth inch fastened to the lower column with ten-penny nails at each corner. The glulam column end includes an eight-inch deep borehole centered in the end of each column, with two half-inch dowels at each column based on a Simpson CJTPL design and countersunk to be centered and plugged with a wood dowel. A quarter-inch moisture barrier is installed at the interface of the topping and glulam column per architectural drawings. The glulam column features a three-quarter-inch chamfer or roundover with a one-inch radius at corners, and a maximum quarter-inch kerf cut where required.
