Horizontal bond beam steel is terminated at the joint except at the roof diaphragm. Two 1/2-inch diameter by 4-foot smooth bars are placed at each bond beam with capped ends to allow 1-inch of movement. Wire tie bars receive grease on one side of the joint alongside an expansion joint strip. Backer rod and sealant are installed per architectural specifications, backed by two number 4 vertical reinforcing bars on each side of the joint.
