A concrete slab poured over a fluted metal deck bears directly on the top flange of a wide flange steel beam. Headed shear studs weld through the metal deck into the top flange of the beam to provide composite action. A deck closure plate is positioned at the high flutes, with deck reinforcement placed in the concrete topping according to the structural schedule.
