A steel beam per plan bears onto a column cap plate sized to match the beam or column width plus one-half inch with a thickness matching the beam flange and a three-quarter inch minimum. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the column web with three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds on three sides. A three-eighths-inch by nine-inch splice plate on each side centers on the splice and connects the framing members using four three-quarter-inch-diameter A307 bolts at standard gauge, totaling eight bolts. Five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds secure the column cap plate and splice connections on three sides typically.
