A structural steel moment connection joins steel beams to a steel column using ASTM A572 Grade 50 plates. Flange plates are sized with a thickness equal to the beam flange thickness plus one quarter inch, aligned flush with the top of the beam flange typically. The connection incorporates weld access holes detailed per AISC 360 standards at the beam webs, with complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom flanges. Shear tabs provide web connection using standard round holes and bolts sized per schedule, spaced at three inches on center with one and a half inch edge distances. Additional three-eighths inch plates and clip corners are provided as required, with the column extending three-quarters of an inch above the beam flange at the roof.
