A hollow structural section truss chord connects to a vertical HSS member and a diagonal angle strut at a designated working point. Half-inch thick plates measuring 4 by 4 inches are welded to each side of the vertical HSS member. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds secure the connection with two-inch returns. A diagonal angle per the truss plan is tied in using a plate and connection detail specified on sheet S5.55. Maximum clearances of one-half inch are maintained between the connected structural elements.
