An existing five and one-eighth inch glulam beam supports a new hollow structural section splice member with connecting plates and hardware. The assembly features an HSS 8x8 splice over the glulam, tied together using a half-inch by twelve-inch by one-foot-eight-inch plate secured with two half-inch diameter by six-inch lag screws at three inches center-to-center on each side of the HSS. Three-eighths by five-inch plates are provided on each side and the top, welded with five-sixteenths fillet welds. Plywood sheathing is located adjacent to the glulam and connection elements.
