A typical interior steel column base plate is oriented within a square block-out at structural grid intersections. The column size is specified per the structural framing plan and welded to the base plate with a 5/16 inch fillet weld. Anchor bolts are positioned with typical two-inch clearances from the column flanges and plate edges. The square block-out provides precise alignment and grout placement space around the anchorage assembly.
