A stepped concrete slab assembly bears on a continuous steel beam. A continuous L4x4x1/2 angle is welded to the steel beam web with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. Three-quarter-inch diameter deformed bar anchors measuring three feet long are installed in the field at nine inches on center, offset from the typical slab reinforcement. Rigid insulation fills the void beneath the upper slab step. The joint interface features a roughened surface to one-quarter-inch amplitude for an optional construction joint. Slab reinforcement consists of number seven bars at nine inches on center each face and number six bars at six inches on center with one-and-a-half-inch concrete clearance.
