The moment connection details the rigid joining of structural steel framing members with complete joint penetration groove welds at the beam flanges and fillet welds at the web erection plates. Weld access holes are dimensioned with a minimum three-eighths inch radius and configured with height and width parameters proportional to the web thickness. A one-half inch web erection plate provides temporary alignment and securement, with shim plates inserted at mismatched web thicknesses. Demand critical welds are specified per AWS D1.1 structural welding code requirements. Bevels at the beam flange transitions are prepared in accordance with approved groove weld procedures.
