An HSS beam frames into an HSS column utilizing a quarter-inch plate welded with typical three-sixteenths fillet welds on each side. Two three-quarter-inch diameter through-bolts in horizontal short slotted holes secure the connection, maintaining a maximum half-inch gap at the column face. A cross-section detail shows the through-bolts passing through the hollow structural section with typical quarter-inch plates.
