A structural steel beam frames into a hollow structural section column with connecting plates sized per plan and schedule. Three-eighths-inch by twelve-inch plates are welded to each side of the tube using a five-sixteenth-inch fillet weld on three sides. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld secures the plate to the steel beam. A one-inch closure plate is provided at the connection point. Concrete over metal deck is omitted for clarity.
