An HSS post supports a wide-flange beam sized per plan with a one-inch gap between members. A three-quarter-inch thick by six-inch by nine-inch plate is welded to each side using three-sixteenth-inch typical fillet welds. Two seven-eighth-inch diameter bolts in long-slotted holes secure the connection, with the bolts centered in the holes. An angle brace sized per plan connects to a gusset plate welded to the underside of the beam flange.
