An HSS beam connects to the web of a wide flange column using top and bottom structural angles sized as L4x4x1/2. The angles feature a length equal to the column width minus one and a half inches. A one-half-inch maximum clearance is maintained between the beam end and the column web. Five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds secure both sides of the angles, while one-quarter-inch welds are applied on three sides.
