A wide flange structural steel beam connects to a wide flange steel column using a typical shear plate welded to the column and bolted to the beam web. The top detail shows the beam framing to the column flange, while the bottom detail shows Option 1 with the beam framing to the column web where the beam fits inside the column flanges. Field welds secure the shear plate to the column per structural plans, and high-strength bolts secure the beam web to the shear plate. Top of steel elevations and beam sizes are sized per plan.
