A hollow structural section tube brace connects between an overhead structural steel beam and a lower structural steel beam with welded plates and bolted angles. The upper connection features a one-half inch by ten by ten inch plate welded to the bottom of the beam with three-eighths inch stiffener plates on each side, supplemented by L5x5x5/16 angles on each face of the tube secured with one three-quarter inch diameter machine bolt through a two-inch vertical slot. The lower connection mirrors this arrangement with a base plate welded to the beam and stiffener plates aligning with the slab blockout as required. Fillet welds of one-quarter inch size are applied typically at the connection plates.
