A plate is welded to the web and flanges of a wide-flange column with specific dimensional clearances relative to the column K-distance. Complete joint penetration welds connect the plate to the column flanges, and fillet welds sized at three-quarters of the plate thickness connect the plate to the column web. The assembly establishes precise tolerances for the plate location relative to the column centerlines and fillet dimensions.
