An existing open-web roof joist is reinforced for a new point load by adding L2x2x1/4 structural angles to both sides of the joist web. These reinforcing angles extend to the nearest panel point on the opposite chord. Welds of three-sixteenths inch attach the angles according to the indicated spatial limitations of greater than or less than six inches from panel points.
