A glued-laminated timber column is slotted at its centerline to receive a three-eighths-inch kerf plate connected by three three-quarter-inch-diameter machine bolts spaced at four inches on center. The kerf plate is welded to the web or flange of the structural steel column. The bottom of the cut glued-laminated timber column sits flush at the exterior face of the exterior stud wall below. A bidder-designed exterior stud wall runs beyond the connection.
