A hollow structural section column connects to a supporting beam sized per plan. The connection incorporates steel plates welded to the column base, including a 1-inch thick plate for HSS12x12 and HSS12x10 members, a 1/2-inch thick plate for HSS8x4 and HSS6x6 members, and a 3/4-inch thick plate for HSS12x8 members. Four 7/8-inch diameter ASTM A325 pretensioned bolts secure the assembly. Column orientation varies per plan. Stiffener plates of 3/8-inch thickness are welded with typical fillet welds as indicated.
