This transverse construction joint connects existing concrete pavement to fresh concrete using a dowel bar embedded across the joint centerline at half the pavement thickness. Holes are drilled into the existing concrete pavement at one and five-eighth inches diameter for a one and one-half inch diameter dowel bar, or one and three-eighth inches for a one and one-quarter inch diameter dowel bar, and bonded using chemical adhesive. The dowel bar is coated with a bond breaker on the fresh concrete side and spaced at twelve inches on center. The joint includes a one-quarter inch radius edge on the fresh concrete side.
