A parallel beam connects to the web of a perpendicular girder using a full-depth connection plate and a one-half by four-inch plate welded with a one-quarter inch fillet weld. A diagonal brace plate connects to the girder flange with a three-quarter inch diameter machine bolt, or a high-strength bolt if the beam is part of a moment frame. The detail includes dimensions for vertical spacing and restricts the brace angle to a maximum of forty-five degrees. When dimension X exceeds eighteen inches, an angle brace is required with a top connection detailed elsewhere on the drawings.
