A structural steel beam connects to an open web steel joist girder using a five-sixteenths inch by four inch by required bent plate welded with a one-quarter inch fillet weld on three sides. A five-sixteenths inch plate is centered on the plate web of the beam, which is secured with four bolts through a shear tab connection. Additional one-quarter inch fillet welds are specified at the bearing interface between the supporting girder and framing members.
