This moment connection joins a wide flange beam to a column using complete joint penetration welds with backgouging. The beam flanges are connected to the column flange with complete joint penetration welds that are backgouged on both flanges. The beam web is also connected to the column flange with a complete joint penetration weld that is backgouged. A flange plate with a thickness of 1.4 times the beam flange thickness is specified at the column connection. The connection geometry allows for variable beam angles relative to the column face, with the top of steel elevation aligned with the top of the beam flange.
