An LH-series open web steel joist bears on a supporting structural steel beam and hollow structural section column assembly. A three-quarter-inch by twelve-inch cap plate is welded to the top of the column with a three-eighths-inch plate extending through a slot in the column. In-framing joists are connected via a half-inch by nine-inch plate centered at the bearing location with erection bolts where required. Fillet welds of one-quarter-inch size secure the joist seat to the supporting plates with a half-inch clearance provided between adjacent joist ends.
