A steel beam-to-column flange connection occurs at the top of a column. The assembly features a cap plate whose thickness is determined by the greater of the connected flange thicknesses plus one-quarter inch, with a one-inch minimum. Continuity plates are specified to match the larger flange thickness. Shear tabs connect the framing beams to the column flanges where required. Welds tie the top and bottom flanges to the cap plate typical of the connection.
