An L4x3x3/8 angle with long leg horizontal is welded to the web of a wide-flange steel column. The connection is detailed with a four-inch minimum vertical clearance from the top flange of the column to the top of the angle. A quarter-inch fillet weld attaches the angle to the column web on both sides, specified with three-twelve intermittent weld spacing. The assembly provides a rigid shelf or support condition for secondary framing attached to the primary column member.
