A beam-to-column flange connection occurs at the top of a column. A cap plate caps the top of the column, with its thickness specified as the greater of beam flange thickness TF1 plus one-quarter inch or TF2 plus one-quarter inch, with a one-inch minimum. Continuity plates are installed inside the column web, sized using the larger of flange thickness TF1 or TF2. Beams frame into the column flanges using shear tabs welded where indicated and bolted to the beam webs. The top and bottom flanges of the beams weld to the cap plate with typical complete joint penetration welds.
