A concrete grade beam includes a full-width formed keyway located at the mid-depth of the footing, sized to one-third of the footing depth with a ten-inch maximum dimension and a one-and-a-half-inch minimum projection. Grade beam reinforcing bars continue across the joint with a typical Class B lap splice and maintain a two-inch typical clear cover. Construction joints are placed between the one-fourth point and one-third point of the clear span between footings.
