A vertical hollow structural section post connects to a wide flange beam below via a centered 1 1/2 inch by 8 inch by 1 foot 8 inch Grade 50 plate. The connection is secured with four 1-inch diameter A490 high-strength bolts on standard wide flange beam gauge, supplemented by stiffener plates on each side. Alternatively, the assembly can be welded using a 1/2-inch fillet weld, a 3/8-inch partial joint penetration weld option with a 1/4-inch fillet weld, or per welding options detailed on the drawing. The wide flange beam below is sized as indicated on the structural plan.
