A vertical pipe and strap center on a double two-by top plate supported by wood studs. The top plate features a centered maximum two-inch diameter hole for a two-by-four plate or a maximum four-inch diameter hole for a two-by-six plate. Simpson PSPN516Z metal ties or equal are secured to both sides of the top plate across the notch or bored hole. Plates are staggered to offset twelve sixteen-penny common nails per plate.
